Research Engineer/Scientist

FLSA Status:             Exempt

We are looking for a bright, well-rounded, innovative research engineer to work in our fast paced, dynamic GTC R&D laboratory.  This individual will hold responsibilities in the research and development required for creation and evolution of proprietary technologies applicable to the chemical and petrochemical industries. This engineer will apply knowledge of chemical engineering in the design, development, and execution of fundamental and advanced research in a variety of areas. This individual will specify and or design required equipment as well as solving problems and drawing meaningful conclusions that fit the overall goal of the projects.  Communication skills and a keen desire to work in an energetic cross-disciplinary team are essential.  Excellent understanding of the practical application of unit operations, critical thinking skills, and lab experience are required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify problems and improvements related to proprietary technologies
  • Perform research and development related to creation and support of proprietary technologies
  • Identify experimental approach to address technology issues
  • Investigate, plan and execute experiments based on engineering criteria
  • Define scope and deliverables related to project objectives
  • Prepare manpower and expense budget for testing
  • Collect, process and interpret data in order to gain meaningful information about the experiment
  • Perform independent analysis of experimental results
  • Proactively review testing procedures and processes to increase efficiency
  • Write or review standard operating procedures for any new testing or protocols
  • Maintain detailed, accurate and organized laboratory records
  • Write summaries, reports and standard operating procedures in a clear and concise manner
  • Maintain cleanliness & support laboratory safety protocols
  • Provide technical support and education to others within the company and company’s clients
  • Provide support for a wide variety of technical projects as directed by supervisor & manager
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and non-engineers both written and verbally

  • Attention to detail required

Education / Experience

  • B.S. or an M.S. in Chemical Engineering required, with coursework or equivalent experience in unit operations, thermodynamics, organic and inorganic chemistry
  • Previous laboratory experience is required
  • Knowledge of good documentation practices is required, as is the ability to receive instructions both verbally and written
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel and experience with engineering software preferred

Language Ability:

Ability to read, write and interpret technical and commercial documents in English language.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define problems & path forward to possible solutions, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Understanding of the cultural norms for doing business across the globe
  • Must be able to determine whether or not the experimental data obtained is sound, accurate and comprehensible with the knowledge of the testing parameters
  • Understanding the relationship of the task of obtaining experimental results and how that fits into the overall goal/bigger picture of the project

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to organize and manage large data files for multiple projects
  • Basic computer skills expected
