GT-PTA® Oxidation Technology

Relaxed oxidation for lower material consumption

In conventional PTA oxidation processes, the PX and Acetic Acid (HAc) burning losses are always a significant contribution of the operation cost of PTA production. The high level of burning loss is due to the strict 4-CBA spec (~4000ppm max) in the Crude Terephthalic Acid (CTA) after oxidation, because the hydrogenation of the conventional PTA purification section is not capable of treating high levels of 4-CBA content.

By utilizing the GT-PTA purification technology, which doesn’t have hydrogenation and can accept up to 5% 4-CBA in the CTA, the oxidation condition has a greater flexibility to reduce the oxidation temperature and allow more 4-CBA production. With the “relaxed” oxidation condition at a lower temperature, the PX and HAc burning losses can be significantly reduced and result in significant savings in operating costs.
